Welcome to The Ohio AG Bell Website
Welcome to the Ohio Chapter of the Alexander Graham Bell Association for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing! We invite you to peruse our pages and encourage you to contact us with questions about our mission, advocacy, outreach or national membership. We would also like to hear from you with ideas for additional information you would like to see on the website!
Mission:
The mission of the Alexander Graham Bell Association, an organization comprised of persons who are hearing-impaired, parents, professionals, and other interested persons, is to empower persons who have a hearing loss to function independently by promoting universal rights and optimal opportunities for such persons, from infancy through adulthood, to learn to use, maintain and improve all aspects of their verbal communication, including their abilities to speak, speechread, use residual hearing and process both spoken and written language.
The national organization was founded in 1890 by Alexander Graham Bell. He believed that most children who have a hearing impairment can develop the ability to listen and speak if their education begins early and they can make maximum use of their residual hearing. Today the A.G. Bell Association preserves Dr. Bell's concept of the team approach through education, research, and advocacy programs. Information, advocacy, scholarships, financial aid awards, counseling, publications and conventions are programs available through the association.
AG Bell in Ohio:
The Ohio Chapter of the Alexander Graham Bell Association was founded in 1988 to follow the mission of the national association, providing support, information and advocacy at the state and local levels. If you would like to share this vision with other members of Ohio, please consider joining the Alexander Graham Bell Association! The AG Bell Board of Directors (National Office) has a unified membership structure such that all AG Bell members will hold both national and state membership. Members who reside in states with an AG Bell chapter will also hold chapter membership.
